Mannum Community College recognises and values Aboriginal students and their families within our community.

The key personnel supporting Aboriginal students and families are:

  • Sharnii Williams – Aboriginal Community Education Officer (ACEO)
  • Charly Elliker – Aboriginal Education Teacher (AET)

Sharnii and Charly work closely to build relationships between students, families and staff so the school experience can be successful and rewarding. This includes working closely with teachers and support staff with literacy, numeracy and other support for the students.   They assist staff with resources and advise for including Aboriginal Perspectives throughout all curriculum areas.

The whole school acknowledges and celebrates significant events such as Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week to promote cultural identity and awareness.

Mannum Community College have our Thukubi Pulgi (Turtle House) Parent Group on Wednesday’s during term time.  The group meets at the Baseby Cottage and focuses on arts and crafts which they sell at the Christmas Tree Festival and other events.

The Thukubi Pulgi Homework Centre runs on Wednesday’s from 2.20pm – 3.20pm.  This is a great opportunity for students to get extra support with their homework.

Mannum Community College have implemented the Department of Education’s Aboriginal Learner Achievement Framework to set goals and targets to improve the outcome for all our Aboriginal students.
